Exploring abandoned cave houses in rustic Andalucia was an unforgettable experience. Our guided tour took us through a landscape of sun-baked hills and rocky cliffs, revealing ancient dwellings carved into the soft, porous rock.

As we descended into the caves, we could feel the cool, damp air enveloping us, and the narrow tunnels winding through the rock revealed glimpses of hand-carved niches, shelves, and even beds. It was fascinating to see how the people of the area had adapted to the harsh conditions of the landscape, making use of the natural resources to create comfortable, livable spaces.

Our guide explained how many of these caves were once inhabited by the poorest people in the region, who could not afford traditional houses. They would carve out their homes by hand, often with no more than a hammer and chisel, and create a unique and sustainable way of life.
